LaGrange, Ky. --- The 2009 Derby City Soccer Academy and Coaching Seminar, set for June 26-28, 2009 in Louisville, is taking applications for the only open training session in the U.S. this year to feature professional coaches with every level of global playing and coaching experience. Chris Ramsey, Director of Player Development for the Tottenham Hotspur of England's Premiership (league,) will headline the coaching staff. He will be joined by Tim Mulqueen, of the U.S. Men's National Team and the U.S. Olympic team; and Mark Watson, player/manager of the national champion Charleston Battery and the Canadian Men's National Soccer Team, among others.
The event is considered a trial for 10 first-division leagues around the world, as well as national teams from three countries. This event is unique and unprecedented in this country.
Just 64 male players between the ages of 15 and 18 (as of June 26, 2009) will be enrolled in the Academy Class of 2009 - delivering a "boutique" experience for young players never before available in this country. Players can visit the website http://www.derbycitysoccer.com/ for details. The cost is $750 per player including all meals, transportation, hotel, gifts, clothing and party. More than half of the accepted players will receive financial aid; seven full scholarships are available. Simultaneously, a coaching seminar will also take place. All coaches are invited to register. As part of that weekend, America's Largest Soccer Party will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Molly Malone's Irish Pub and Restaurant in Louisville. Soccer lovers are encouraged to show support for their favorite team by wearing jerseys and joining in the raffle and silent auction. You can rub elbows with soccer elite from around the world, including the winner of "Survivor:Africa," professional soccer player Ethan Zohn, founder of Grassroot Soccer. The Derby City Soccer Academy & Coaching Seminar and America's Largest Soccer Party are hosted by the nonprofit public charity, The Kentucky Children's Health and Fitness Fund. The Fund joins four other national and international children's charities to share proceeds including Grassroot Soccer, Soccer for Kids' Sake, TOPSoccer of Kentucky and the Adam Bender Foundation. The charities collectively serve more than 400,000 children annually, providing healthy living programs and education.
